Panel computers for hazardous oil, gas locations
EXPC-1319 Panel Computers are introduced as “roughneck-ready” for use throughout
hazardous oil and gas operations.
The 19-in. models are fully enclosed to withstand heat, moisture,
vibration, and dangerous gases inherent to oil and gas. They’re designed to deliver high-performance
computing capacity for operator
control and monitoring, data collection, visualization tasks, and
Rugged EXPC-1319 “is not
a commercial PC that has been
adapted to an industrial housing,”
declares its maker. “Instead, it is a
computer that has been designed
from the inside out to be used in
Rugged for extreme environ-
ments, these models meet UL Class
1, Div. 2 and IEC ATEX Zone 2 hazardous location codes — without
need for such special measures as
complex and expensive enclosures or additional certification processes, it’s noted.
EXPC-1319 is qualified for direct hazardous areas installation where potentially explosive gases or vapors may be present — including petrochemical and chemical process facilities. They meet T5 temperature requirements. They maintain 248°F/120°C
or less in ambient 140°F/60°C and fully function at down to -40°F and C.

Service helps fulfill suspended
well decommissioning plans
Wellintel Well Data Collection & Review Service is newly
launched to help operators fulfill suspended well decommissioning plans. It gathers and prepares information operators require before starting a decommissioning
This service provider’s engineers offer “extensive well
abandonment knowledge and detailed understanding of
the entire decommissioning process,” it’s emphasized.
Operators having an up-to-date well inventory and
regulatory documentation ready for submission to DECC
and the HSE can take advantage of such commercially
efficient opportunities. These include multi-client abandonment campaigns that may arise on short notice.
The Wellintel team collates well-specific data (
end-of-well reports, well status diagrams). Initial assessment of
well categorization is in accordance with O&G UK guidelines. These are required to identify which assets are
available and suitable for vessel-based abandonment.

Noncontact acoustic gas leak
detectors for 24 ultrasound bands
FlexSonic Acoustic Gas Leak Detectors are unveiled as
“the first non-contact gas leak detector of its kind that
recognizes 24 discrete ultrasound bands.”
Designed to withstand harsh arctic to tropical envi-
ronments and conditions, the new instruments analyze
24 discrete ultrasound bands or “fingerprints.” They
ignore nuisance ultrasonic sources. A high-fidelity mi-
crophone continuously monitors for distinct ultrasound
emitted by pressurized gas leaks across a broad fre-
quencies spectrum, notes the manufacturer.
Unlike traditional non-contact designs, FlexSonic
can be programmed to ignore background noises and
discern between gas leaks and environmental noises
(metal-on-metal contact, fans, machinery). For noisy
applications, the detectors learn both regularly occurring and random sounds to detect actual acoustic gas

New DuPont Teflon industrial coating released
This company has released a new DuPont Teflon industrial coating declared “the first
truly water-based, low VOC, easy-to-use coating with corrosion resistance of up to
3,000 salt spray hours” (results shown above). The environmentally friendly coating
systems combat offshore, chemical process, and water treating fastener corrosion.
They also offer anti-galling and dry lubrication benefits. The water-based coatings
can be applied in 1 to 4.5-mil thicknesses. Curing temperatures of 450 improve the
process with less bake time and energy required. Additional coatings data are free.
